April is Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month

Picture
Christos House is partnering with Kids First to present training on Child Sexual Abuse and Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse.  We feel that the information that will be presented is of the utmost importance in protecting and changing the lives of children and adults.

The training will be held on Thursday, April 11th from 5-8 pm at the Ozark Action, Inc. Building 2.  The training is free and CEUs will be available to those who qualify.

Christos House will provide food and drinks as well as all materials needed for the training.  We look forward to meeting everyone and working together to STOP THE VIOLENCE!  We ask that individuals RSVP by April 4th.  Everyone is welcome!  Please feel free to contact Christos House with any questions or concerns.

Also, Denim Day in Missouri is the 25th of April.  Denim Day brings awareness to sexual assault.  In 1992, an 18 year old in Italy was picked up by her driving instructor to begin a driving lesson.  Soon after, she was raped on the side of the road by the instructor.  She pressed charges and won her case.  The instructor appealed, and the case went to the Italian High Court.  In 1999, the court overturned the conviction with a member of the High Court declaring that since the victim wore very tight jeans, the instructor could not have removed them himself, therefore the victim must have willingly participated.  Women of the Italian legislature protested the decision by wearing jeans.  As news of the decision spread, so did the protest.  In April 1999, the state of California established the first Denim Day in the United States.  In recognition of this, we are asking that all community members wear denim on April 25th.
